Portrait Professional Version 11 is quite a significant upgrade to this useful program.

While Portrait Professional 10 was a useful program.  It did not really excel at face recognition.  One was required to place all the face points individually.

Any misplacement of facial points required going back to the drawing board with the program.

Old School Retouching

As we have pointed out in the past on Glamourphotography.co, retouching is not a Photoshop phenomenon.

Joan Crawford - As Retouched by Hurrell

In yesteryear, retouching was a common, though mostly secret process that occurred behind the closed curtains of the photographers’, printers’ and retouchers’ studios.

The Internet Archive holds a digital copy of a 1941 textbook entitled, “The Art of Retouching and Improving Negatives and Prints.” The first edition of the book, according to the preface, was published Continue reading Old School Retouching

Rachael of Purple Princess Edits has been retouching and creating fantasy manipulations for the relatively short period of time of approximately two years.

“However, I have been using Photoshop for 5 years on a daily basis for other projects.

My original training was at university as a video editor;  and, this is where I gathered most of my skills.

These skills are what I believe enabled me to pick up Photoshop so quickly.

What is real photography? Retouching images, versus the ‘Good Old Days’ of the truth of Film …

“Oh, that’s not real!  It’s Photoshopped!  Yick!”

This can be a familiar refrain in today’s age of modern digital photography and computer processing of visual images.

But, is it a fair assessment?

Let us discern, what is a photograph?  What is real?

For that matter, what is art?

In any photograph, there is the assumption (false) that photos tell no lies…

In point of fact, all photos are both 99.9999% truthful, and 99.9999….% lies, depending on your perspective.

Eye witnesses, while considered very highly by juries in evidentiary purposes, are in fact one of the least reliable forms of evidence to events.

When an eye-witness to an event believes they have seen the whole event, this is a kind of lie they may tell very convincingly.

In being witness to any event, we see only a facet, or several facets of a much greater event.

This is how Continue reading What is real photography? Retouching images, versus the ‘Good Old Days’ of the truth of Film …

Photographs are frozen 2D representations of 3D events flowing in the 4th Dimension of time

While a fully retouched glamour photograph may be a thing of beauty indeed, it is a frozen two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional person, who in reality lives a life flowing through time.

The point is, a photograph is not a person.

While a photo may or may not look like the person being photographed, most people, when viewed by loved ones, are beheld as beautiful.

Why is this so?  Continue reading Photographs are frozen 2D representations of 3D events flowing in the 4th Dimension of time

Two Different Colored Eyes Before and After Post Processing with Photoshop

Yes, this woman actually does have two different colored eyes. We shot the photograph, near Scottsdale, Arizona in my Fountain Hills studios, using a Paul C. Buff ring flash for key lighting.

Two Color Eyes Before and After Photoshop, sectoral heterochromia
Two Color Eyes Before & After Post Processing

The version on the left is a small jpg of the original in camera capture.

Clearly present and visible in the original photo are the different eye colorations, iris patterns and other gross details.  This gorgeously bluish hazel eyed model, with the beautiful and rare reddish starburst colorations in her right eye, has what is termed in Latin “sectoral heterochromia.”

After learning a boat load of retouching skills recently by watching Lynda Photoshop training videos, I was able to create the post processed example on the right and thereby bring to life details which are dormant yet present in the original.

Whenever you are ready for a Lynda tour, either click one of the Lynda banners on this blog’s pages or use this link for your 7-day free trial to lynda.com.

Notice how the eyes hypnotically pop out and draw you in.  Continue reading Two Different Colored Eyes Before and After Post Processing with Photoshop
