Published in 2002, ‘ Lighting for Nude Photography‘ is a timeless treatment of how to light the nude by some of the finest fine art nude photographers of the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
159 pages in paperback, at 10.75 x 9 x 0.5 inches, is about the size of a magazine.
The first 20 pages or so are general how tos and definitions and such … for example:
What is a Scrim?

Also in these pages are some glancing references to

Winter Morning. Photographer: Edward Holland, (c) 2010 . Location: Gwinn, MI. This was my first shoot with Edward of 2010, our fourth year shooting together. The shoot was early in the morning on May 8th, when snow is not uncommon for the Upper Peninsula of Michigan…but not exactly common either! Poor Edward is from Florida, and I think he was colder than I was even in his coat. But we both sucked it up, and Edward captured this crisp color shot perfectly.
Much of Model Mila Avani’s work is art nude.
Her settings are often in remote nature.
There is a feeling of beauty and freedom, of courage and honesty to her work which serves to both uplift and inspire viewers.
A quote attributed to Michelangelo and shared by Mila …
“What spirit is so empty and blind, that it cannot recognize the fact that the foot is more noble than the shoe, and skin more beautiful than the garment with which it is clothed?”
… this for me is a personification in words of the nude form as beauty.
Genesis. Photographer: Blake Fisher , (c) 2010. Location: Munising, MI. Although it looks like somewhere in a desert, this shot was taken beneath the popular geologic landmark of Miner’s Castle in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, near Munising, MI. Unknown to many, who see it only from the viewing deck, the sandstone shore beneath Miner’s Castle is riddled with caves carved by the Lake Superior waves. Blake – another Florida resident – stood in 12-inch-deep water until his feet nearly froze off to capture this shot, without complaint. Jumping the “Off Limits” fence and exploring the erosion-prone shoreline might not have been the best ecological decision, but it sure paid off artistically.
There are models who today are courageous enough to embody this spirit of

‘ Superbeauty‘ by J. Stephen Hicks is a 160 page hardcover volume of photographs of beautiful nude women.
If you have ever seen some of Stephen’s video of his photo demonstrations, he is a master of outdoor lighting setups for a kind of editorial Playboy Magazine style of look.
The first 10 pages are in English and German and give a little bit of bio information on Hicks. With regards to his methods, little beyond the fact that he was shooting exclusively digital in the last 5 years, book is © 2010, is to be learned.

Kat Kalashnikov is an alternative fetish model who also styles wardrobes through her
Crash Trash Designs persona.
The looks Kat portrays are blends of captivatingly edgy with creatively unique.
A number of the ensembles she is sporting here are in fact her creations and are so credited.
All in all, the package Kat delivers, we are not likely to see quite the likes of elsewhere.
“Being a model is wonderful.
It goes beyond being an artist, I am art.
I have been modeling for five years total. And, the last two years were as a full-time gig.

If you photograph women, “ Lighting Notebook, 101 Lighting styles and setups for Digital Photographers” by photographer Kevin Kubota is a great book choice to learn about lighting.
With Kevin Kubota as author, it’s not a great surprise “
Lighting Notebook” is a high quality learning resource for lighting. Personally, I have experienced Kubota as an excellent teacher of Photoshop CS5 on Lynda. Much of what I learned about photo editing, I learned from Kevin’s clear, concise and well organized instructional videos.
To preview some of the instructional editing videos Kevin has produced, explore the
7-day free trial to lynda.com for a complementary taste of the many excellent Photoshop video instructionals available on Lynda.
While the title does not say so, “
Lighting Notebook” is really a book about lighting for photographing women.
Be it nude, dressed, fashion, glamour, commercial, editorial, etc. Kubota’s “
Lighting Notebook” is about lighting women.
Fresh off the presses © 2011, there are two main sections to this modest sized 9.25 x 7.5 x 0.75 inch paperback book.

San Diego based model Amelia Simone is curvy, busty and beautiful.
While modeling for less than a year, she has achieved full-time professional status.
How has she achieved this?
Amelia is a 24-year-old all natural beauty with a body toned by 8 years of regular yoga practice.
If her figure doesn’t quite captivate, she exudes an exotic sultriness which will draw you in.
Great combination for a nude figure model.
The mystique of her ethnicity, can you pierce her origins?
I will tell you,

One of the things about photography that keeps it new and interesting for me is how very much there is to know about any particular niche of photography.
And, beyond any given niche, how varying from a niche is very much like and very much different from all other niches.
I believe, and have written, that the future of photography will be smaller sensor digital format cameras, like the APS-C

Nikon 300mm AI-S f4.5, Nikon D7000 body. Manfrotto 200PL-14 RC2 rapid connect mounting plate is attached to the 300mm's tripod mounting collar foot. The 300mm's built in metal lens shade is shown extended. Click image to view larger.
The Nikon 300mm f4.5 AI-S Manual Focus lens is one of the few manual focus lenses I actually have occasional use for.
As I have written, I am not a big fan of manual focus lenses as they are difficult to focus on the DSLRs I use, like the Nikon
D90 and now the D7000.
When shooting moving objects, like women models, manual focus lenses are lessons in frustration. I also find, the shorter the focal length, the more difficulty I have focusing these manual jobs… I believe, due to the reduced bokeh at shorter focal length. The 300mm f4.5 I can focus, not using the screen, but using a selected focusing spot and the visual arrow and dot in focus/out of focus indicators visible in the view finder.
Nikon 300mm f4.5 AI-S, D7000, Manfrotto 334B Monopod, ISO 100 @ f8.0 1/125 sec, Unedited except for conversion to monochrome.
So, what’s good about the 300mm f4.5 AI-S?

Bill Resto is a photographer and digital artist based in San Diego, California. His company is Pixel Elegance.

‘ Alvarado’s Classic Modern Pin-ups‘ just arrived in my mail and it’s cover to cover a collection of Alvarado’s modern take on the classic Pin-up theme.
I have long been a huge fan of Robert Alvarado’s work. In fact, Robert was our lead off photographer profiled on GlamourPhotography.co on January 1, 2011.
Robert has a highly recognizable stylized form of modern pin-up photography.
We photographers learn from each other.
Alvarado’s style is one which photography blogs are often talking about trying, as photographers oft do, to reverse engineer the Alvarado signature process.
I have heard him say in interviews that it takes him
