Recent Firmware Update Fix for D-Link 655 Wireless Router and Galaxy S-4 (T-Mobile) compatibility issues

There is a fix to the D-Link 655 N wireless router and Samsung Galaxy S-4 compatibility issues…

On a  recent upgrade of my Galaxy S to a Samsung Galaxy S-4, to help with various presentations of my photography to clients and prospects, I ran into significant networking issues..  Both wired and unwired.

Instead of an iPad or similar, I use the Galaxy’s fairly large bright screen and handy pocket size to be able to make presentations on the fly…. I also use it to make phone calls…

This was put at risk almost immediate  Router Crashes with the D-Link N+ 655 that happened as soon as I started using the Galaxy S4, and required a router reboot.. and only worked for a few mins there after…

Turns out it was a know issue… Don’t believe me?  Google it… I did.

The router would lock up. My desktop, hard wired through the router would lose it’s connection.. The wireless was also snafued…

Went out, bought a new router… This was like late May, early June.

Bought the NetGear N900 Dual Gigabit fancy one… Why not, they aren’t that expensive… Live a little, right?

After a few hours w customer service… It got returned…  Never did work…

Bought the Belkin AC900 N… It set up okay, with some help… But, when I talked on the phone, I could hear them folks fine, they couldn’t hear me. I’d be cutting in and out…

Plus, my Netflix would hang… Like every 5 or 10 minutes… It would sit and re buffer… Right at the exciting parts…  Okay, I still had router issues…

More time with customer support later, doing a bunch of things… Same deal… Same Netflix hangs and folks not hearing me speak…

So, I started looking for a new router solution…  Like all routers have spotty reviews… If you read the one star reviews on Amazon… some real horror stories, for like every router… Like every one…

First, there are the glowing 5 star reviews… Yes, they set up and work great… Then you drill down… After a while, some pretty nasty stuff seems to be prevalent with these beasties…

What to do?

I noticed a firmware update was released a couple weeks back for my otherwise trusty old D-Link 655 N

For link to the firmware update page, click here.

Note, there are a version A and version B to this router. I have the version A, which has the recent update, as of this writing.

I read the instructions.  Saved my configuration.  Installed the update…

This update helped fix most of my issues… Now, sometimes, I have to reset my S-4 wireless connection, right on the phone… Turn it off, turn it on.  Takes like 15 seconds.

Seems to be fairly stable, otherwise.

Happy routing.
