“The Mammoth Book of Illustrated Erotica” edited by Maxim Jakubowski & Marilyn Jaye Lewis, features work from over 50 photographers, including the likes of Peter Hegre, Brian Peterson and Tony Ward, along with one or two short paragraphs of bio, and about 5-10 samples of each photographers work.
The genres here are erotic art, fetish, implied nude and nude photography of women… dated to 2001.
This title is very similar sounding to “The Mammoth Book of Illustrated Erotic Women” edited by Maxim Jakubowski. We did a review of this separate title on January 16th, 2011 which may be viewed by clicking here.
Trying not to confuse the two, “The Mammoth Book of Illustrated Erotica” I find grittier and personally feel is not of the same quality in the photography samples as “The Mammoth Book of Illustrated Erotic Women.”
The two books are very similar in almost all regards. Except that “The Mammoth Book of Illustrated Erotica” is by far the more X Rated and fetishy of the two, and “The Mammoth Book of Illustrated Erotic Women” is less fetishy, and I feel more glamourous and generally has a better quality of images.
There are links to most of the personal sites of the photographers, so this book, which is just under 8 inches by 6 inches is suitable, due to the fetish nature, of being kept somewhere private, assuming you like fetish with which to occationally inspire yourself or your guests and clients. Probably the lack of web site links for all artists is due the nature of the changing web. 2001 is way way back in web years.
The samples of Tony Ward’s work I personally find to be a high point to the volume.
The book is avail in paperback inexpensively for about $6-$14 depending on new or preowned condition.
Amazon says its 512 pages, I’m looking at it, and its last page is number 480 then the rear cover… don’t let that stop you from grabbing one if you love fetish photography from 2001.
If you enjoy books of mainly images of a wide variety of fetish photographers, working on the heavily erotic side of female photography from the 2001 time frame, along with links to their sites, “The Mammoth Book of Illustrated Erotica” may be a suitable acquisition for your library.
